  1. A permanent endowment is specially set with instructions to invest the money permanently. A term endowment is set with instructions that the funds be invested of a certain period of time and then released. A quasi-endowment is an unrestricted gift given, but then the institution’s governing board decides to create an endowment from the money.

A Term endowment is also another term for temporarily restricted, meaning it is invested for a set number of years, then released.

A quasi-endowment is when a donor gives a gift with no restrictions on it, and the instituition's governing board who received the gift decides to create an endowment with the money.
